Coulomb breach effect emerging in shot noise

چکیده

Noise can be a unique probe of electron–electron correlations in nanoscale electron devices. While stationary or small signal transport can often be simply understood in terms of single particle behaviour, noise can be extremely sensitive to many-body effects (Landauer L 1996 Physica B 227 156). We present a new collective phenomenon emerging in electron transport in a resonant tunnelling diode, due to Coulomb repulsion dramatically magnified by the particular shape of the density of states in the quantum well. This phenomenon, for which the name of Coulomb breach is proposed, reveals itself by making shot noise several times greater than that expected in the absence of correlated electron motion. Experimental results showing shot noise enhancement of a factor 6.6 are reported.

Effect of long-range Coulomb interaction on shot-noise suppression in ballistic transport

We present a microscopic analysis of shot-noise suppression due to long-range Coulomb interaction in semiconductor devices under ballistic transport conditions. An ensemble Monte Carlo simulator selfconsistently coupled with a Poisson solver is used for the calculations. A wide range of injection-rate densities leading to different degrees of suppression is investigated. A sharp tendency of noi...

Shot-noise suppression by Fermi and Coulomb correlations in ballistic conductors

We investigate the injection of degenerate Fermi-Dirac electrons into a multimode ballistic conductor under the space-charge-limited regime. The nonequilibrium current fluctuations were found to be suppressed by both Coulomb and Fermi correlations. We show that the Fermi shot-noise-suppression factor is limited below by the value 2kBT/«F , where T is the temperature and «F the Fermi energy of t...

Collective-interaction control and reduction of optical frequency shot noise in charged-particle beams.

We present a theoretical model for longitudinal collective Coulomb interactions in a charged-particle beam. It suggests a possibility to control and reduce optical frequency shot-noise current in accelerated electron beams. For short interaction lengths, the model describes well coherent optical transition radiation effects observed in SLAC LCLS and in other laboratories. For longer interaction...

Research on Carrier Correlation in Ballistic Transport Nano- MOSFETs

In this paper, the experiment proved that shot noise is suppressed by Fermi and Coulomb interaction correlation. Meanwhile, the establishment of shot noise suppression factor (Fano) in ballistic transport nano-MOSFETs the Coulomb interaction correlation and the combination of the two effects are derived from separately considering the Fermi interaction correlation. And on this basis the variatio...

Coulomb drag in quantum circuits.

We study the drag effect in a system of two electrically isolated quantum point contacts, coupled by Coulomb interactions. Drag current exhibits maxima as a function of quantum point contacts gate voltages when the latter are tuned to the transitions between quantized conductance plateaus. In the linear regime this behavior is due to enhanced electron-hole asymmetry near an opening of a new con...
